Japanese Black Pine

Japanese Black Pine

Description: There is a variety within the species of pine. What differentiates one pine from another is the number of needles - 2 ,3 or 5. Their pyramid shaped cones have woody scales.

Age: 350 years old

Size: Approximately 2 feet wide x 3 feet high

Basic Care: Prefers sun and likes warm weather. It can withstand some frost and wind.

 

Japanese White Pine  

Japanese White Pine

Description: Native to Japan where it is called "goyo-matsu," this white pine is known to have an irregular shape and dense foliage. The needles are thinner than the needles of the black pine so gentle care must be taken to prevent the needles from drying in the wind.

Age: 250 years old

Size: Approximately 2 feet wide x 3 feet high

Basic Care: Like its cousin, the black pine, the white pine also prefers sun and warm weather. It can withstand some frost and wind.

 

Trident Maple  

Trident Maple

Description: This trident maple is native to the northern hemisphere where temperatures tend to be cooler. Their leaves will be green in sping and yellow-orange and even red in the fall.

Age: 400 years old

Size: Approximately 2 feet wide x 3 feet high

Basic Care: While it tolerates sun, it should be placed in shade. Exposing it to the wind will help provide good and necessary ventilation. Take care to make sure all the leaves have fallen by the end of autumn.
